You Get Me.

You know how we always hear these cheesy, yet, fabulous lines in movies?

Lines that you know aren't real, but make you secretly hope your husband will look across a crowded room at you and say, "You. Complete. Me".

Yeah, you know what I'm talking about.

Tonight, it happened to me.

It was a regular night, like any other.

Tucking in my 9 year old boy.

The boy who has started rolling his eyes and getting a certain "tone" in his voice.

A boy whose hugs and kisses come just a bit less frequently.

A boy whose childhood is flashing before my eyes.

That boy looked right at me from his pillow and said,

"Mom. You get me."

It literally took my breath away.

I looked at him and replied,

"I'm your mom. Getting you is kind of my thing."

My life had a movie moment tonight.

In the midst of the ordinary, my son made me feel extraordinary.

Awwww so sweet. Gosh, it is crazy how similar our familes are. I met with kinder teacher today. She already sees all of my son's good qualities.

OMG that is so amazing. Did you get a little dizzy when he said it. I get that way when an amazing phrase like that pops up out of nowhere. :)

This is beautiful! My 12yr old son speaks less each day lately. I do however get a glimpse of his real heart sometimes and we've had some moments like you've described. Melts me...

Just when you think . . . right? Treasure those moments, he'll be a man before you can blink your eyes!

Gosh, I got chills with that! As a mom to a little man myself, its so nice to imagine that sort of closeness with a mother and son. So sweet, thanks for sharing :)

Good for you for capturing that moment forever on your blog...you will need it to refer back to often when he is fourteen {trust me on this!}

I read this last night and didn't respond so that I could run in and hug Lil L. Thanks for the cry!

Wow, and at that age too. I think that is extra special.

Would your son please come over and share his talent of showing appreciation to my Little Man? I need me some love after my day of cleaning.

This is the sweetest thing I've heard in a long time. I have a 9 year old son and it's hard watching him want to separate from me and become his own person. It is hard not getting all the cuddle time and hand holding I used to get. Sigh. Darn kids, have to go and grow up on us.

Best. Post. Ever.

I am so going to find a way to publish this in its entirety on SITS. It made my heart happy.

And I just realized that you are still on Blogger here. Laughing.

this is so awesome! I look forward to those moments. I feel like I've had a few big moments [by that I mean the ones that even death won't rip away! ;)]a few weeks ago my son told me for the first time that he was happy. He doesn't really understand emotions- or at least how to talk about them. It took me a good minute to figure out that was what he was saying!

i hope you get many more moments with your boy! And hopefully his eye rolling won't get more intense each year! ;)

That is so sweet. I think I'm that kind of Mom too. My older son is a Tim Burton wanna be and he is always adding skulls or skeletons or zombie-whatever to his room. His Dad thinks he is crazy, but I think he is unique and priceless and just a little bit fabulous!

Maybe it's me, but as a fewllow mom of a 9-year-old son, maybe, just maybe, the "pull-aways" make us appreciate the "You get me's" all that much more.

What a wondrous---and no doubt, well-deserved and sincere--observation by your He-Child.

Precious. :) Love and miss you!
(all the pictures from Mama Kat in Philly REALLY made it worse!)

So precious. Made me all teary-eyed. Then, as I read everyone's comments it became a full on cry. My first child passed away at birth, and would have been 14 last Saturday. I try to remember to cherish every moment I'm blessed to "get" my other children. Thank you for sharing your joy with us. It makes me happy!

Okay that got me. My son is 24 married and I still look for him in his empty room. Aren't they amazing?

I see that you still have time to blog after all that you do with SITS. I'm new so I had no idea you did all of this. Thank you! It's great!!!

Aren't those the moments we live for?? My oldest son used to come hug and kiss me *as soon* as he woke up every morning and say "Good morning Mommy, I love you". He started when we was just a toddler and did it faithfully every day. Until he was about 12 and it became very rare. He just turned 14 and has started it back up and it just makes my day :) Have a Happy New Year!!
